Corpus Christi Procession Sunday, June 14th

Processions with the Holy Eucharist have been part of the liturgical life of the Church for centuries. Always encouraging her members to confidently bear witness to the faith in the public forum, the Church has reverentially venerated the sacred species of the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ outdoors to deepen the fervor and faith of her members.
Preaching on the origin of today’s Feast of Corpus Christi, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI eloquently noted: “It was born for the very precise purpose of openly reaffirming the faith of the people of God in Jesus Christ, alive and truly present in the most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. It is a feast that was established in order to publicly adore, praise and thank the Lord, who continues ‘to love us to the end,’ even to offering us His Body and his Blood.”
Deprived of partaking in the Eucharist these past 3 ½ months, may today’s eucharistic procession throughout the parish brings us, who hunger to be fed with the Eucharist, comfort, solace, and peace. We still cannot go to Him, so today He comes to us.
Our procession (weather permitting) will begin in front of St. Mel’s at 10:30 AM. Fanio will drive me and Deacon Joe around the neighborhood in the back of his pickup truck. Listen for the altar bells. For those who live along the route, come out for a blessing. For those whose homes we will not pass, consider meeting us at one of the intersections. There or not, Christ’s blessing is for all who believe that He is truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament!
“O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving,
Be every moment Thine.”
